Volunteer for India initiated the COVID-19 Mitigation Campaign during the initial months of the pandemic. The aim of this campaign was to use social media as a tool to engage people at home through a one day challenge (consisting of games, activities, sessions & tasks) to mitigate COVID-19 and aid short-term healing with the help of counseling.

Under the COVID-19 online virtual volunteering and webinars project, volunteers were trained to understand, execute and involve people in their community for activities that can be done at home to create localised impact. In the counseling project, a total of 43 expert counselors speaking 8 languages participated as volunteers to provide free counseling services across India.

Impact

There were 550+ beneficiaries for the online volunteering and webinar sessions and 53 individuals who were experiencing mental/emotional health issues and sought the support of counsellors who were volunteering under the campaign.

The campaign was able to create awareness on how to mitigate COVID-19. It has also helped to create values like creativity, ideation, activity planning, mapping and resource mobilization in volunteers.
